EVENT: Informal Book Chat with Lauren C North

On Thurs 30th March I went to Waterstones in Colchester for a book event. It was to lauch Lauren C North’s new book The Ugly Truth, which is written in transcript style about a celebrity who goes missing. It is told via interviews for a Netflix documentaty, interviews for a ghost-written biography and social media posts. It’s a great book, I’m halfway through so far, and you have to choose if you are #savemelanie or #helppeter.

The evening had nibbled and prosecco which is always a good start! It was an informal event where Lauren asked us to talk about our favourite books and characters, what we think of books being turned into films, our favourite and the worst (we hit Twilight hard here). We also spoke about audiobooks and ebooks. It was really interesting to hear from people who were in reading groups as it’s not something that has ever appealed to me. It seems that they read a real mix of books. I’ve always had book friends where we have shared good books between us and then had a good chat about it. I really enjoyed this event, I had Storygraph open adding books to my TBR list from other peoples suggestions. Lauren was lovely and she contributed to the discussion with some of her favourite books.

At the end of the event there was an opportunity to get copied of The Ugly Truth signed. Sadly I was waiting until payday to get a copy. We all got a lovely goodie bag to take home which was an unexpected treat! It contained 2 books, some bookmarks and flyers, some lovely The Ugly Truth choccies and a posh can of sparking water, all in a Transworld tote bag!

Lauren C North has published several books, I intend to read more of them later this year. Her books are psychological suspense which I love as a genre! She writes under Lauren North and L.C. North. Check her books aut at your local book store! Her new book The Ugly Truth is out now and her upcoming book My Word Against His is released on 26th May.
